Bronchiectasis

Bronchiectasis is a lung condition where the airways (the tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs) become permanently widened and damaged. Because of this damage, the airways can’t clear out mucus properly, leading to a buildup of thick mucus that makes it easier for infections to happen.

People with bronchiectasis often have a long-lasting cough, cough up mucus (sometimes with blood), feel short of breath, and get lung infections more often. It can be caused by infections, immune system problems, or other lung conditions like cystic fibrosis, but sometimes the exact cause isn’t known.

There’s no complete cure, but treatments like medications, special breathing exercises, and sometimes physical therapy can help clear mucus and prevent infections, making it easier to breathe.
